Man injured in Camagüey accident could lose his arm due to staff shortages in hospital

A young Cuban, seriously injured in a traffic accident in Camagueyis in an emergency situation in the hospital due to a lack of medication. Doctors warn that he may lose his arm.

He pointed out that the young man was enduring unbearable pain and that no painkillers were available at the health center. “His arm is broken in several places and his fingers are broken. The surgeon said that the arm could turn black and he could lose it. Thanks to the efforts on Facebook, some solutions have been found,” he added.

Several people have expressed their solidarity with the injured man and his family has managed to bring medicine to the hospital.

“Thank you all for the supportive comments. He will be taken back into the operating room on Monday, but he will have to undergo another operation after that. We have already got the painkillers and he can sleep now,” said one user Victoria Gonzalez.

The surgeon warned that the arm could become necrotic and require amputation. This case highlights the serious deficiencies of the Cuban health system, where the lack of basic medical care puts the life and physical integrity of patients at risk.
