Travelers Championship 2024: Will bad weather force a third round interruption? Rain, thunderstorms and other updates

In the 2024 season, weather has proven to be the PGA Tour’s biggest nemesis and its successful run of events. First, the Pebble Beach AT&T Pro-Am was reduced to a 54-hole event, and then the Cognizant Classic was moved to a Monday due to bad weather. And even at the Travelers Championship, weather issues have not left the tour alone.

The final signature event of the 2024 season got off to a great start without any such disruptions. However, the second day’s round was halted due to lightning strikes, and will the third round be called off altogether after 3 hours when weather becomes a precaution at TPC River Highland?

According to the National Weather Service Unfortunately, the forecast is for rain on move day for the Travelers Championship. The round will begin with dark clouds over TPC River Highland with a 20% chance of rain. By 11 a.m., the chance of rain will drop to 15%, but there is a 10% chance of lightning, which could cause a delay in competition.

The real problem starts around midday, though. There is a 20% chance of sudden showers or thunderstorms, which increases to 50% as time goes on. In addition, the wind will also be gusting at 8-12 mph after 2 p.m. The weather is likely to make things even more difficult for golfers at the top of the leaderboard.

Golfers like Tom Kim, Scottie Scheffler and others could face a late start or interruptions in between, as their tee times are scheduled for the afternoon. It’s believed the PGA Tour could suspend the third round if conditions worsen, and may opt to resume it after a few hours, as a 60 percent chance of rain is forecast for the evening.
