73-year-old man opens fire on 80-year-old man during neighborhood dispute after victim searches shooter’s property, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An 80-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot by his neighbor for allegedly tampering with his belongings on his porch, according to Houston police.

The video above is from ABC13’s live broadcast channel.

HPD officers arrived to the 1500 block of Damarlee Lane just after 8:30 p.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

According to authorities, the victim and the shooter, a 73-year-old man, had an argument in early June. Police said this was due to the 80-year-old victim rummaging through the 73-year-old’s property. This situation did not worsen at the time.

Police said that on Saturday the same incident occurred, but the 80-year-old man slipped under the shooter’s carport and began rummaging through his personal belongings.

The 73-year-old man then heard something and came out, armed with a small pistol, police said. He then confronted the 80-year-old man, who hit him with a cane, causing the 73-year-old to open fire once, hitting the 80-year-old, HPD said.

Police said the shooter called 911 and was cooperating with law enforcement.

The 80-year-old man was transported and is expected to be OK, HPD said.

The prosecutor’s office will determine whether charges will be filed.
