Two years after the racist attack in a Buffalo supermarket, the incident in Arkansas occurs

The shooting in Arkansas occurred nearly two years after a similar mass murder at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.

Ten black people were killed and three others injured in the racially motivated incident at the Tops grocery store.

Payton Gendron, who is white, is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to charges of murder and hate-motivated domestic terrorism.

Gendron, who was 18 when he livestreamed the massacre after a three-hour drive from his home in Conklin, New York, could face the death penalty if convicted of federal hate crimes. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.

Last month, the city of Buffalo commemorated the second anniversary of the shooting by dedicating a memorial to honor the victims.

The central square in front of the Tops supermarket is now occupied by a sculpture entitled “Unity”. It consists of purple metal columns that represent the people killed. Three golden columns represent the injured.

City mayor ‘narrowly’ escapes Arkansas shooting scene

The mayor of Kingsland, a city in Arkansas, said she narrowly escaped the shooting in the Mad Butcher parking lot in Fordyce.

Mayor Sharon Crosby said she was walking down the side street toward the grocery store parking lot when a young man motioned for her to turn around.

She told the local press, Cleveland County Herald that she heard several shots as she retreated.

One of the shots, she added, appeared to have hit the ground right next to a police officer as he fled behind his patrol car for protection.

Crosby said she drove her car to a car wash near the crime scene to avoid an encounter with a suspect who was trying to flee the scene.

The mayor left the scene shortly afterwards and saw several police vehicles with their blue lights on driving towards Fordyce.
