MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Today is a First Alert Day as another system brings rain and thunderstorms to the region. No severe weather is expected in the morning, but we should expect a stronger storm front to form in the late afternoon and evening. This front could produce strong winds and likely bring very heavy downpours.

All of the rain will fall on our already softened ground, which could cause flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. A flood warning is in effect until midnight tonight. When travelling on the roads, be aware of flooded areas and do not drive through them.

What’s next …

Rain will return in the mid to late morning hours, coming from the west. It will mainly be just a few isolated showers, but thunder is also possible. There may be a lull in the early afternoon before a cold front moves in later. This front could trigger some stronger thunderstorms. Highs today will be above 25 degrees, with high humidity.

The good news is that this rain will help to lower the humidity somewhat by Sunday. The dew point will drop to below 15 degrees Celsius. Sunday will start cloudy but will become sunnier as a high pressure system moves in. Highs will be above 25 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead…

Monday looks sunny, calm and pleasant for this time of year. Then on Tuesday the heat returns, triggering another First Alert Day. Highs will be back in the 90s and humidity will be high. If a storm system moves through, that extra energy could produce some strong thunderstorms on Tuesday.

It will be dry on Wednesday and Thursday, but there is a higher probability of rain on Friday.
