A 12-hour gas outage threatens the DHA and Korangi areas of Karachi

DHA, adjoining areas and the industrial and domestic sectors of Korangi will face a 12-hour gas disruption on Sunday.

KARACHI:

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced that it will suspend gas supply in several areas of Karachi from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday to allow the installation of a new gas distribution pipeline.

The distribution from Azeempura to Jam Sadiq Bridge occurs at two important points which impact all sectors of Korangi including both industrial and residential areas as well as DHA and its adjoining areas.

The areas where work will be suspended include Defence View, Manzoor Colony, Akhtar Colony, Kashmir Colony, Mehmoodabad, Azam Basti, Qayyumabad, DHA Phase 2 Extension, Phase 4, Phase 5 and Extension, Phase 7 and Extension and Phase 8 including Creek Vista and Emaar.

Residents and businesses in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the 12-hour closure.

Earlier this week, the SSGC began actively cracking down on gas theft and carried out raids in Sindh and Balochistan.

They have removed 770 illegal connections and filed charges against the perpetrators.

In Karachi, 570 illegal domestic connections were dismantled in Federal Territory B and in Liaquatabad.

In addition, an FIR was filed against the owner of a bakery in North Karachi for illegally connecting a high voltage generator directly to the gas pipeline.
