Patient arrested at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center after two nurses were violently assaulted and sexually assaulted

Cortland police said they responded to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center in the city of Cortland to investigate two separate incidents, each in which a nurse was violently assaulted and sexually assaulted by a patient at the hospital. According to a police statement, the incidents occurred on May 5th and 7th.

CPD says they made an arrest 45-year-old Francisco E. Rodriguez on Tuesday, May 7th. In a news release, police said Rodriguez threatened to harm and rape female employees.

Rodriguez is charged with attempted rape in the first count, sexual battery in the first count, both felonies, forcible touching, and unlawful imprisonment in the second, both misdemeanors.

Cortland police said neither of the two nurses who were attacked suffered serious physical injuries.

Rodriguez was arraigned in Cortland City Court and remanded to the Cortland County Jail on $500,000 bail. He is due back in court later this month.
