Justin Timberlake breaks silence after drunk driving arrest in Hamptons – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Justin Timberlake broke his silence after being arrested for drunk driving in the Hamptons on June 18.

At his concert in Chicago on June 21, the pop star was back on stage for the first time since his arrest. He thanked his fans for “growing up” with him over the years.

“We’ve had ups and downs and left and right,” he told the cheering crowd. “It’s been a tough week.”

“I know it’s hard to love me sometimes, but if you keep loving me, I will get your love back,” he continued.

Timberlake did not explicitly mention the drunk driving.

Timberlake, 43, was driving a gray 2025 BMW when an officer observed him run a stop sign and then twice disregard his lane, Sag Harbor police said in a complaint released June 18.

Surveillance videos posted on Hamptons.com appear to show a vehicle matching the description of the one Timberlake was driving when he was stopped and arrested by police in New York early Tuesday.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and found that Timberlake was driving “while intoxicated,” police said.

In the complaint, an officer said Timberlake’s “eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, he was unable to divide his attention, he spoke slowly, he was unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”

The “SexyBack” singer told officers, “I drank a martini and followed my friends home,” Sag Harbor police said.

The actress was spotted filming her upcoming Prime Video series “The Better Sister” in New York City on June 17, just hours before Justin was arrested in the Hamptons on suspicion of drunken driving.

He refused to take a breathalyzer test three times, police said. He was arrested and held overnight.

A spokesman for the Sag Harbor court and a spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to NBC News that Timberlake was arraigned on at least one count of drunken driving on Tuesday morning.

Timberlake pleaded not guilty and was ordered to appear in court on July 26, officials said.

After the charges were filed, Timberlake was released “on his own recognizance,” according to police.

Edward Burke Jr., an attorney for Timberlake, issued a statement to NBC News on Wednesday: “I look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake on these allegations. I will have much to say in due course, but am currently awaiting the full findings from the prosecution.”

Timberlake was dining at the American Hotel in the upscale Long Island beach town on Monday night and was then on his way to a friend’s house when he was stopped, a source close to the star told NBC News.

Timberlake released his latest album, “Everything I Thought It Was,” in March and kicked off his “Forget Tomorrow World Tour” in Vancouver, Canada in April.

The pop star and father of two’s last show took place on June 15 in Miami, and his next appearance was scheduled for June 21 in Chicago.

Timberlake’s tour dates were scheduled through December and included performances in North America and Europe.
