Video: BKFC 62 fighter attacks referee after TKO stoppage

When referee Sam Burgos intervened during the co-main event of BKFC 62, he stopped the fight – but inadvertently started a new one.

Seemingly dazed by a series of punches that led to a first-round TKO stoppage, Keith Richardson (4-1) was unaware the fight was over or who his actual target was on Saturday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

After Burgos entered the pocket to stop the action, Richardson continued to throw, but aimed at the referee and not at his opponent Alberto Blas (6-0).

Burgos kept Richardson at bay, although the confused fighter appeared physically but not mentally functional. Burgos dodged the punches until a BKFC official pinned Richardson against the ropes in a bear hold.

With the win, Blas claimed the promotion’s bare-knuckle boxing title, while Richardson lost for the first time in bare-knuckle boxing.
