Russia may be behind the attack on the Diehl weapons factory in Berlin last month – Image

Russian agents may have been involved in the fire at Diehl Metall in Berlin in early May, reports Bild.

Evidence of Russian involvement in the fire was leaked to the German cabinet by a foreign intelligence service, the Bild newspaper reported.

Seven weeks after the fire, Diehl management stated that the cause of the fire was a technical defect.

The plant belongs to the German group Diehl Defence, which produces, among other things, Iris-T air defense systems for Ukraine. However, Diehl’s Berlin branch deals exclusively with metal processing, for example for cars, and not with weapons production.

Berlin is currently examining the information. But it is still unclear why the metallurgical and not the military Diehl plant was chosen, writes Bild.

On May 3, a fire broke out in the factory in southwest Berlin, and the entire western part of the capital was enveloped in toxic smoke. Rescue workers reported that four floors of the building had burned down completely and part of the building had collapsed.

In 2022, with the support of the German government, the company transferred its IRIS-T to Ukraine for the first time.

This year there were a number of fires in arms and ammunition factories.

On Monday, June 10, an explosion occurred at the Mesko weapons factory in Poland, which produces weapons and ammunition used by the Ukrainian military. Casualties were reported.
