One person arrested in connection with fatal South Bend shooting – 95.3 MNC

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting in South Bend that left one woman dead and two others injured.

It was just before 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, when South Bend police were called to the 500 block of Parry Street for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found a female victim, 28-year-old Jasmine Swanson, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Swanson was later pronounced dead.

During their investigation, officers learned that two other female victims had been taken to the hospital from the same crime scene with apparent gunshot wounds.

Through an investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, 22-year-old Rya Barnes was identified as a suspect.

Barnes was arrested Thursday afternoon on several preliminary charges and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail, where she awaits a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County District Attorney’s Office.
