Court wants to revoke Gilbert teenager’s probation after new arrests

PHOENIX – Deleon Haynes, the first adult convicted in connection with the recent wave of youth violence in the East Valley, was re-arrested by Gilbert police Friday for his involvement in two criminal investigations.

Haynes, 19, was sentenced to three years probation on June 3 for his role in a group attack at a Gilbert In-N-Out Burger in August of last year. A Maricopa County Superior Court spokesman said KTAR News 92.3 FM The adult probation service has filed a motion to revoke Haynes’ probation due to the new allegations.

Gilbert police said Haynes illegally entered a home on June 12 from which he had been evicted two weeks earlier. Inside the home, he allegedly got into an argument with a minor with whom he had previously been in a relationship.

In another incident on Friday, a minor told Gilbert police that Haynes threatened her and a family member. Case records show the threats were made virtually.

After processing his case at the Gilbert-Chandler Unified Holding Facility, Haynes will be held on bail in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Haynes is the second suspect linked to youth violence in the East Valley to be rearrested after being convicted. Jacob Pennington, 20, was arrested on DUI charges on June 13, just hours after being sentenced to the same three-year suspended sentence.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said Thursday her office had filed a motion to revoke Pennington’s probation.
