North Greenbush man allegedly injured police officer in domestic incident

NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A North Greenbush man is facing multiple charges following a domestic incident Friday night. Police said two officers were injured while responding to the call.

On Friday around 5:30 p.m., police were called to a home in Wynantskill where 29-year-old Austin Kownack allegedly took a vehicle and his children without permission despite having agreed custody arrangements. When he returned home, he became aggressive toward his family and police, according to police.

Officers attempted to arrest him, but he allegedly became combative, injured both officers and fled on foot. He was arrested in a nearby yard.

The officers were taken to hospital for their injuries and released.

Kownack was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree obstruction of governmental authority and resisting arrest. He was arraigned and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail without bail because he had a previous felony conviction.

He will have to appear in court again at a later date.
