Penticton rapist who tortured woman for 14 hours denied parole | News

The Canadian Parole Board has once again denied release to rapist David Bobbitt.

The parole board’s report on Bobbitt’s May 2024 application was released earlier this week.

Bobbitt, now 48, brutally tortured a 22-year-old woman for 14 hours in his second-hand store on Ellis Street in Penticton. Her young son was also in the store but was unharmed. His store was scheduled to close at the end of its business day and the victim arrived just before 4:30 p.m. hoping to buy something for her son.

After the attacks on June 31 and August 1, 2011, Bobbitt stole money from the victim’s purse and was on the run for three days until he was discovered in an orchard near Osoyoos.

Bobbitt has been in prison since his arrest and could spend the rest of his life in prison as he is classified as a dangerous offender. His latest application for parole was his fourth, after previously being denied in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Among the deciding factors for the parole board were Bobbitt’s poor performance as a prisoner, as he had made baseless threats against prison staff.
