The feud between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk took a dark turn on Smash on Friday when the Scottish warrior attacked Punk in his hometown of Chicago.

A bleeding punk was eventually taken away on a backboard.

This was a brutal segment, as McIntyre was first seen carrying the unconscious Punk into the Allstate Arena, then dropping Punk on the stage and even taking one of his wristbands.

Punk hasn’t wrestled since tearing his triceps at the Royal Rumble in January, but he has made his presence felt, most notably when he disrupted McIntyre’s pursuit of the World Heavyweight Championship in his native Scotland.

After the first referee was knocked out, Punk ran to the ring for the count of three, but stopped at two, then delivered a low blow to McIntyre, allowing Priest to regain momentum and win.

This all happened after WrestleMania, when a confrontation between McIntyre and Punk allowed Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank contract to steal the belt from McIntyre, who had just defeated Seth Rollins.

So it goes without saying that the two hate each other.

Punk’s SmackDown return ended on a hard note on Friday, but this feud is clearly far from over. However, following a brutal attack in front of Punk’s hometown fans, the momentum is now clearly on McIntyre’s side.
