AUSTIN (KXAN) — A second suspect is in custody in connection with the fatal shooting at Old Settlers Park during Juneteenth celebrations in Round Rock last weekend, Round Rock police said on social media Friday.

According to police, shots were fired after a fight broke out between two groups.

At around 8:30 p.m., police said a “male juvenile suspect” was taken into custody and taken to the Williamson County Detention Center.

Police expect more suspects to be charged and continued their investigation on Friday.

17-year-old admits firing shots in Old Settlers Park

On Friday, KXAN obtained an affidavit stating that the first suspect, Ricky Thompson III, admitted to firing shots at the party.

“The defendant admitted to being at the scene with a 9mm weapon,” Thompson’s affidavit states. “In addition, the defendant stated that he fired three shots in the direction of the plaintiff, striking him in the leg.”

Recently released court documents indicate that the person Thompson is believed to have shot and injured was one of the members of the group he was fighting with. This victim is also 17 years old.

Thompson is currently facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. Police said there is a possibility his charge could be upgraded.
