Sheriff: Mother arrested after child tests positive for drugs

LAFAYETTE, Mississippi (WMC) – A mother is facing charges after her child tested positive for drugs, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 19, investigators received a report from Lafayette County Child Protective Services (CPS) regarding a child who tested positive for drugs.

An investigation was launched and as a result of the investigation, the child’s mother, 26-year-old Chelsea Elizabeth Bennett of Abbeville, was arrested and charged with child endangerment.

Bennett was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center and later released on bail.

A Lafayette County District Court judge set bail at $5,000.00.

Due to the sensitivity of the investigation, which involves a juvenile, no further information was provided.
