Buffalo woman who fatally struck cyclist pleads guilty

Carmen Martin, 35, faces up to four years in prison when she is sentenced Aug. 29, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Martin was driving a Chrysler sedan westbound on South Park Avenue near the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino around 8:50 p.m. on June 17, 2022, when she struck a 32-year-old woman who was riding a bicycle, prosecutors said. Martin continued driving and struck two other women on bicycles near South Park and Columbia Street before hitting a parked vehicle near South Park and Mississippi.

The cyclist who died was Sara Rogers, 29, a jazz musician who provided music therapy to children.

The investigation determined that Martin suffered from a medical condition and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crashes, the prosecutor’s office said in a news release.

Prosecutors did not identify Martin’s medical condition.
