Freeport police investigate second gun incident within 24 hours

FREEPORT, Illinois (WIFR) – On Friday at 1:14 p.m., Freeport Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of W Douglas Street.

According to police, two men were fighting when the suspect shot at the victim, but the victim was not hit. The suspect drove away in a silver SUV. Officers found evidence at the scene. There are no reports of injuries or damage from the incident.

Freeport Police believe this incident was not a random act of violence. While the investigation continues, Freeport Police ask anyone with information to call them at 815-235-8222 or Stateline Area Crime Stoppers at 866-TIPSNOW. Information and tips can also be texted to Tip411.

On Thursday around 9 p.m., Freeport police responded to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of W Empire Street. This is the second shots fired incident in 24 hours that Freeport police have been called to.
