2 dead and 8 injured in shooting at Mad Butcher grocery store in Arkansas

A gunman opened fire in an Arkansas grocery store on Friday, killing at least two people and injuring several others. authorities said.

The fatal incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. CT at the Mad Butcher in Fordyce, about 70 miles south of Little Rock.

“Seven of the victims of the shooting were civilians, two of whom were fatally injured. A police officer was also shot, but his injuries are not life-threatening,” said a statement from the Arkansas State Police.

The shooter was seriously injured and taken into custody, police said.

“I am grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic actions in saving lives,” Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

The Arkansas attack followed a mass shooting on Wednesday in Oakland, California, that left 15 people injured during Juneteenth events near Lake Merritt, officials said.

In addition, seven people were injured in a shooting in Philadelphia on Wednesday, officials said.
