Couple found dead in house in Voluntown – murder and suicide

A couple found dead in a Voluntown home on Wednesday committed a murder-suicide, according to state police.

The two were discovered at a home at 270 Hell Hollow Road shortly before 11:30 a.m. after authorities received a 911 call in which a woman said she was “sorry” and ended the call, according to Connecticut State Police.

Residents within a mile of the home were told to seek shelter while police investigated.

State police identified the couple on Friday as 69-year-old Michael Zannini and 65-year-old Jacqueline Zannini. The couple lived in the house.

According to state police, an autopsy revealed that Michael Zannini died of gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide. The chief medical examiner’s office determined that Jacqueline Zannini committed suicide due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

State police said officers found Michael Zannini dead in the driveway when they called to the house.

When police tried to speak to anyone who might be inside the house, they received no response, so they sent a drone there and found a woman unresponsive, later identified as Jacqueline Zannini.

The firearm in question was confiscated.

The investigation by detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad is ongoing.
