Ryan Garcia: “I’m going to the UFC” after suspension for doping tests

Ryan Garcia is not taking his suspension by the New York State Athletic Commission well.

After news broke that Garcia had been suspended for one year for testing positive for a substance during his April 20 fight against Devin Haney, the boxer took to social media to address his punishment in a confused rant.

Garcia (25-1, 1 NC) must pay a fine of $10,000 and forfeit his $1.1 million prize money to Golden Boy Promotions.

Garcia, 25, claims his innocence and says he is retiring from the sport.

“I’m (angry emoji),” Garcia wrote on X. “I really hope boxing goes well without me. I’ve fought everyone and I was ready to do it. They turned their back on me. I’m innocent. I stand by it, I don’t care what anyone says. With a gun to my head, I say I did not take any performance enhancing drugs.”

“Boxing is DEAD DEAD (skull emoji). Boxing is messing with the wrong guy.”

During his rant, Garcia also claimed that he would move to the UFC.

“I’m going to the UFC,” he wrote. “Dana, I want my 50 grams. Seriously, Dana White, contact me.”

On Instagram, Garcia added: “Hey look at this crybaby she gets what she wants. I never cheated. They banned me for a year. I HATE ALL OF YOU FAKE PEOPLE.”

“Boxing sucks, I’m going to the UFC.”

While the move would be exciting and Dana would likely be open to the option, just like in boxing, the New York State Athletic Commission’s ban would prevent Garcia from entering the cage.

Along with his suspension, fine, and loss of purse, Garcia’s victory was overturned by majority decision to a “no contest.”

The WBC super lightweight title was not at stake in the Haney-Garcia fight because Garcia did not reach the weight limit.
