Hospital terminates contracts of radiologists it suspended on June 7

The decision to suspend the radiologists two weeks ago came after several serious problems emerged regarding the quality of medical imaging at the hospital. The problems came to light following an internal audit.

The radiologists have been suspended until the investigation is completed. A press release on Thursday evening said: “Based on the investigation we have conducted, ZNA has concluded that further cooperation with the radiologists is no longer possible. It has been found that the medical imaging service does not meet generally accepted quality standards. ZNA has therefore decided to terminate the doctors’ contracts immediately.”

The hospital management stated that, in view of the investigation, it was not possible to restore trust between itself and six of the seven radiologists involved. One radiologist was offered the opportunity to continue working in the ZNA hospital network if he was willing to accept “accompanying measures”. However, the radiologist did not accept the offer and has now also been dismissed.

The ZNA hospital group stresses that it will continue to investigate past cases and propose additional treatments if necessary. The personal liability of the radiologists in these cases remains “unaffected”. “ZNA is taking this decision to ensure the continuity of its operations and to bring calm to ZNA Cadix in the interests of its patients, doctors and other employees.”

The investigation examined 1,300 medical records dating back to the beginning of the year. Of the 1,300 records, 500 were examined very thoroughly. 52 of these records were found to have “potential implications for patient safety.”

In total, the hospital contacted 24 patients and informed them that their records were of concern.
