Miami Police arrest suspect in auto break-in at Home Depot – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – A man was arrested in connection with a car break-in that occurred in the parking lot of a Home Depot in Miami on November 25, 2023.

The victim, Camila Rodriguez, reported the incident to police and even spoke to 7News after the brazen theft occurred. She said her car was parked at the Home Depot at 2999 SW 32nd Ave. around 12:35 p.m. when she discovered about $1,000 worth of grocery bags missing from her car.

Video footage from Rodriguez’s Tesla cameras showed a white, stocky man wearing a brown shirt, brown shorts, brown Crocs and dark sunglasses opening the trunk of her car. The suspect, identified as Jesus Fernandez, was seen removing all of the bags and placing them in a shopping cart before cleaning the trunk with a colorful rag and fleeing the scene.

Rodriguez told police she remembered Fernandez smiling at her as she entered the store, but didn’t think anything of it at the time.

On Thursday, shortly before 6 p.m., authorities found Fernandez in Miami Beach and arrested him. Fernandez was taken to the Miami City Police Department for questioning, where he confessed to the burglary.

Fernandez is charged with third-degree burglary of an unoccupied vehicle and third-degree grand larceny. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
