Oyo NSCDC charges man for alleged rape of 8-year-old girl

The Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit of the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday arraigned 16-year-old Olalekan Joshua, a barber from Onipasan area of ​​Odejayi, Ibadan, on suspicion of rape of a minor.

Joshua is said to have committed the heinous act at the victim’s mother’s shop on December 18, 2020 at about 8pm. He was arraigned before Justice Adetuyibi P O. at the Iyaganku 2 Family Court.

The second suspect, Segun Olaniyi, 26, a hotel employee residing at No. 3, Farayola Street, Bodija, Ibadan, also lured a minor female, a 16-year-old girl (name withheld), into his residence when the victim was sent to buy petrol.

Olaniyi is said to have raped the victim and impregnated her.

Justice Adetuyibi P O. of the Family Court 2, Iyaganku, later remanded the two suspects in custody at Abolongo Correctional Service, Oyo, and adjourned the case to April 15, 2021.

Speaking after the meeting at the Agodi State Headquarters in Ibadan, the NSCDC Commandant, Iskilu Akinsanya, warned anyone guilty of such acts to desist as the NSCDC would not hesitate to bring the perpetrators to justice.
