South Carolina woman shot dead in argument between colleagues; friend charged with murder

ROCK HILL, SC (NEWS FROM QUEEN CITY) — Rock Hill police say a woman died Wednesday after an argument between co-workers escalated.

The York County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Samarian Lindsay, 39, of Rock Hill.

Just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to Riverwalk Parkway near Celriver Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found Lindsay with a gunshot wound to the chest and arrested a man at the scene.

Lindsay was taken to Piedmont Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Lindsay and the man were co-workers at a nearby store who got into an argument at work. Lindsay got into a car driven by her friend, 32-year-old Brittney Reed of Lancaster. As the man got into his car and drove off, Reed blocked his car with hers.

Lindsay then walked up to the man’s window with a gun, and the man pulled out his own gun and shot Lindsay, authorities said. Reed punched the man in the face but left him alone after yelling at her to go away. He waited for police to arrive.

Police believe the man fired in self-defense, so he will not be charged. Reed was arrested and charged with assault.

The next day, police announced that Reed would also be charged with murder because she brought the gun to the confrontation at Lindsay’s request. Police further stated that Reed knew that the action of blocking the man’s car could result in someone’s death.

Two weapons were found at the scene. An autopsy and toxicology tests will be completed this week. The death remains under investigation by Rock Hill Police.
