Perpetrators of the Skopje air crash receive suspended sentences

Seven people who participated in a Attack on an air traffic controller on duty at Skopje Airport Suspended sentences were imposed earlier this year. Six of the seven were sentenced to six months in prison, suspended if they do not commit a new crime within the next year and a half. A seventh person, who already has a criminal record, received a two-year suspended sentence of supervised release if he does not commit a crime within the next five years. Charges against an eighth person were dropped. The incident occurred on January 4, when the air traffic controller on duty was monitoring flights in Macedonian airspace. It was the culmination of months of tension at Macedonian air traffic operator M-NAV, which has included allegations of nepotism, corruption and political interference.
