Trade idea sends Trae Young from Atlanta Hawks to Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are trying to find ways to become more competitive for the upcoming season.

That’s why Bleacher Report author Zach Buckley suggests the Nets should trade for Atlanta Hawks All-Star point guard Trae Young. In the mock deal, the Nets acquire Young in exchange for Ben Simmons, Dariq Whitehead, a 2025 first-round pick (via PHO), a 2027 first-round pick (top eight protected, via PHI) and a 2029 first-round pick. pick (via DAL).

“Young has his limitations, namely anything related to defense, but the Nets might be desperate enough that the offense and star power are beyond them,” Buckley writes. “If the idea is to gain anything substantial during Mikal Bridges’ peak period, then the talent base needs to expand quickly. Get Young, who is putting up double-doubles at 25 points and 10 dimes in his sleep , would greatly contribute to this success, this expansion.

Young, 25, averaged 25.7 points and 10.8 assists per game last season with the Hawks, but he was unable to replicate his team’s success when it went made it to the Eastern Conference finals in 2021.

This deep playoff run has that appeal for Young that maybe he can get back to this point one day. However, the East has improved and the team around Young has not progressed.

Ultimately, Young’s defensive mistakes made him less valuable despite his highly successful offensive skills. His addition to the Nets will keep them middle of the pack in the East, and that doesn’t do anyone any favors. This simply eliminates half of the limited future recruiting capital the Nets have.
