‘Highly intoxicated’ woman arrested for DWI and shot another driver while driving angry in east downtown Houston

HOUSTON – A woman described by Houston police as “highly intoxicated” was placed behind bars Thursday night after a road rage shooting on the Downtown East Side.

According to HPD Lt. Willkens, it all started shortly after 11:15 p.m. when an unidentified woman in her 50s, whom he began by describing as “heavily intoxicated,” struck another driver on the street. Polk, near Highway 59.

This driver, a woman in her twenties, then got out of her car to confront the other woman, who in turn responded with gunshots, shooting her through her car, before attempting to flee the scene. The victim was hit in the shoulder but it is not known if he was hospitalized.

Another person in the victim’s vehicle flagged down a nearby police officer and told him what happened. The “highly intoxicated” woman was then captured a short time later near Jensen and brought back to the scene. She was later taken into custody and charged with DWI, but will face additional charges related to the shooting.

As of this writing, no additional information has been shared, but police are continuing their investigation.
