160 dead rabbits found in Franklin Twp. home – ButlerRadio.com

A Butler woman has been charged after 160 dead rabbits were found on her property.

In November 2023, police assisted the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture with a possible outbreak of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) in the 7000 block of Country Club Road in Franklin Township. When investigators arrived at the property, they did not believe it was an RHD outbreak, but rather a case of animal neglect. This prompted local police to take over the investigation.

According to the indictment, the garage where the rabbits were housed was full of feces, urine and garbage. There were also reports of rabbit skeletons in cages. A search of the garage also found 137 live rabbits living in “filthy conditions.”

After consulting with the police and her family, 68-year-old Wendy Czapski decided to hand over the live rabbits.

Czapski was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and two counts of animal neglect.
