Niger reports 21 deaths in rain and floods

According to figures released by the Interior Ministry on Thursday, torrential rains and floods in the African country of Niger claimed 21 lives and affected almost 6,000 people within three weeks.

The beginning of the rainy season was worst hit in the Maradi region in central Niger, where, according to official figures, 14 people were killed.

The rainy season in the African country traditionally lasts from June to September. In 2022, about 195 people were killed and 400,000 people were affected, many of them losing their homes.
