Two dead in helicopter crash in eastern Washington

Garrett Cabeza / The Spokesman Review (TNS)

Two people died in a helicopter crash about 8 miles south of Davenport, Washington, Wednesday afternoon, according to Lincoln County Fire District 6.

Fire Chief Brandon Larmer said crews were called shortly before 4:30 p.m. to a crashed plane in a private field about one mile north of Bluestem and Linstrum roads off State Route 28.

He said they found two dead people at the scene of the accident and scattered debris from the plane. No one survived.

The crash of the small private helicopter triggered a forest fire of about 1.5 acres, which the volunteer fire department was able to completely contain.

The fire brigade extinguished the embers before leaving at around 7:50 p.m.

Larmer said the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is expected to remain at the crash site until aviation investigators arrive.
