Swanton Police Charge Juvenile After Reckless Driving Incident

SWANTON – During a traffic stop June 16, a juvenile was charged with reckless driving after committing several traffic violations, Swanton Village police reported.

At approximately 4:34 p.m., Officer Kalb noticed a large cloud of dust in the parking lot behind Swanton Recreation Field, an area where there had been numerous complaints about vehicles performing burnouts and donuts.

As the vehicle approached, it quickly left the scene of the accident at high speed.

According to the police report, the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Jewett Street and Grand Avenue.

The vehicle continued south on Grand Avenue, illegally overtook another car on the right and made a wide turn onto Bushey Street, destroying a traffic sign and a mailbox.

The vehicle failed to stop at the intersection of Robin Hood Drive and almost hit two pedestrians before finally coming to a stop in front of 37 Bushey Street.

The driver, a minor, was transported, processed and given a summons to appear in the Family Division of Franklin County Superior Court at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Since the victims are minors, the police have not released any names.

Officer Kalb is the investigating officer and can be reached at 802-868-4100 for further information.
