Weather warning: Heat warning extended | WETM

ELMIRA, NY (WETM) – If you thought the heat warning was over, Mother Nature said, “Not so fast, Twin Tiers!” The warning has been extended through at least Saturday as summer is in full swing.

Air temperatures on Friday will be just above 35 degrees, but when you add the heat to the dew point, temperatures that feel more like 37-32 degrees are possible. Hence the extension.

With that comes the chance of more, less severe thunderstorms that could include pea-sized hail and gusty winds up to 60 mph in some of the strongest cells. By the start of next week (the last day of school for many kids), it will cool just enough to feel better and be closer to the usual averages for this time of year, which are just above 80°F. But by midweek, 80°F will creep back in.
