Why has no report been filed since the house searches?

(NewsNation) — Sean “Diddy” Combs’ home was raided by federal investigators over a month ago and the hip-hop mogul has not been charged, but that doesn’t mean a trial isn’t imminent, former federal prosecutors say.

Department of Homeland Security agents conducted raids on Combs’ million-dollar mansion in Los Angeles and his waterfront home in Miami on March 25, sparking widespread speculation about what prompted the searches.

Since then, little has been known about the investigation, likely because prosecutors are still building a case, Nadia Shihata, who prosecuted R. Kelly for sex crimes in New York, told NewsNation.

“Six weeks in a federal investigation is a very short time,” she said, adding that the complexity of this particular case will require a significant amount of time for fact-finding.

Investigators collected a lot of evidence after the raids, including electronic devices and phones, and they had to go through and carefully analyze everything, she said. They are also likely interviewing many people at this time, including other potential victims, former and current employees or even members of his entourage, she added.

Shihata said it’s also possible prosecutors could use the grand jury to issue subpoenas for evidence and possibly call witnesses to testify under oath.

“I suspect they may be thinking about building an extortion case, and a lot of it will be based on statements from witnesses and potential victims, and it takes longer to build because you have to talk to a lot of people. “Then you have to so many Confirm information as possible so you can prove your case beyond a reasonable doubt,” she said.

What is Diddy accused of?

Federal authorities have had little public comment on what prompted the raids, but NewsNation’s local affiliate WPIX reported that it was an ongoing sex trafficking investigation.

According to a New York Post report, authorities are reportedly expanding their investigation into possible witness intimidation, sexual assault and firearms violations.

The federal investigation into Combs could also reportedly expand to include a reinvestigation of a 1999 shooting outside a New York nightclub.

Federal prosecutors have questioned three Jane Does and one John Doe in connection with sex trafficking, sexual assault and the recruitment and distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms linked to Combs, WNBC reported.

Multiple agencies are collaborating on this investigation, both coastal and possibly even international, adding to the complexity, Katie Cherkasky, a criminal defense attorney and former federal prosecutor, told NewsNation.

How long will the investigation take?

Cherkasky said it’s impossible to predict how long the investigation will take, but it’s entirely possible it could last several weeks to months, or possibly even longer.

The raids came as the music producer faces a growing list of civil lawsuits accusing him of abuse and sexual assault by multiple victims over a period of more than 30 years.

Singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who had a decades-long relationship with Combs in the early 2000s, filed a bombshell lawsuit in New York federal court last November alleging sex trafficking, human trafficking, sexual assault, sexual assault and gender-based violence. among other causes of action.

Ventura alleged that she was lured into and eventually trapped in a pattern of abuse involving forced drug use, rape, assault and forced sex with male sex workers.

A day later, she settled the lawsuit with her former partner, but her lawsuit spawned several other lawsuits.

TMZ reported that Ventura had been cooperating with federal investigators for weeks, possibly even before the raids. The outlet reported that she may have helped investigators determine probable cause to obtain search warrants.

The music producer has been hit with five civil lawsuits in the last six months, each containing a variety of troubling allegations.

Combs has denied all allegations.

Where is Diddy now?

As a federal case likely heats up, Combs appears to be remaining calm.

Last month, he was spotted in Miami cycling from Star Island to Miami’s South Beach, reported E! News.

He shared a cryptic video on his social media this week of himself standing on a cloudy beach in high winds and stretching his arms. A male voice says: “Steady in the storm. Looks bad, looks tough, but stays stable in the storm,” about the scene.

The video also shows the camera moving through a white hallway, with scenes of him hugging someone and praying in a group circle.

“Not hysterical. Not hectic. Not afraid. “Not angry,” says a voice.

But Cherkasky said the music mogul had a lot to worry about at this point.

“It’s a serious matter for them to seriously consider all of these allegations… They don’t do that unless they have substantial probable cause in a case of this magnitude,” she said. “They’ve invested a lot of resources, so I don’t think they’re just on a fishing trip.”
