Disneyland employee died after serious accident; a GoFundMe campaign was launched in response

On June 5, 2024, Disneyland Resort’s Club 33 administrator fell from a golf cart backstage near Disney’s Critter Country. The incident caused serious injuries and employee Bonnye Lear died on June 7, 2024.

The accident prompted an investigation into the road traffic accident that resulted in Lear’s injuries, and we now have an update on the incident.

The Orange County Register reported that Anaheim Police Detectives began investigating shortly after the accident. Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock released a statement to employees in response to the accident.

The statement reads: “We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye and extend our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her,” the Orange County Register said in a statement. “Right now, our focus is on supporting her family and our cast members through this tragic event and making sure they have the resources they need.”

According to The Orange County Register, Disneyland officials have not yet announced any safety-related changes that may be implemented as a result of the accident. This is a developing story and the details of the investigation have not yet been released.

On June 15, Lear’s family members set up a GoFundMe page to cover the costs of her funeral and prepare for a legal battle with Disneyland. The campaign’s goal is to raise $100,000.

The statement accompanying the campaign said the family “is asking for support for the tragic and heartbreaking loss of Bonnye Lear, who died in a fatal fall from a moving golf cart while working as Senior Guest Services Manager for Disneyland’s Club 33.”

The statement continued: “Known for her kind, gentle soul and loving personality, Bonnie Lear lit up a room with an unmatched level of professionalism. She was a firework and spread her light to all around her with enthusiasm and grace.”

The Lear family is asking for funds “for all costs associated with remedying this tragic accident, including cremation, memorial services, a strong legal team seeking justice for her death, and any other unexpected costs.” In a letter to Disneyland Resorts staff, Ken Potrock also said, “We are focused on supporting Bonnye’s family and know this is a difficult time for many of our employees as well,” according to The Orange County Register.
