The Houston Astros now tend to keep stars

Competing teams around MLB have their eyes on the Houston Astros to see what happens with their superstar players at the trade deadline.

Houston is in a better situation than before, but has started to plateau. Sitting at 34-40, it’s getting harder and harder to get back into the Wild Card every day.

Ultimately, the front office will have to make a decision on what will happen at the deadline.

As Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter made his predictions for next month, he predicted they wouldn’t do anything at all despite plenty of speculation surrounding their big names.

The most talked about player who could land on the trading block (and the most sensible one to trade) is Alex Bregman.

Although Bregman has been a cornerstone of the franchise for nearly a decade, his time in Houston may soon come to an end. He is expected to become a free agent after this campaign ends. Instead of losing him for nothing, many suggested a trade.

After starting the season with one of the worst periods of his career, the 30-year-old was one of the reasons things turned around.

He’s lost .338/.390/1.023 since the start of his 16-game hitting streak that just ended a few days ago. At this point, trading him would absolutely be waving the white flag for the season.

The other superstar that has been thrown around in trade conversations is Kyle Tucker, who is expected to hit free agency at the end of the 2025 season.

Trading him mid-season with playoff hopes doesn’t make much sense. He’s currently on the IL, but the southpaw was the league leader in home runs not too long ago.

He was playing crazy to start this campaign, but his value could be higher in the offseason. If the Astros want to move him, they should probably wait until then, especially if they feel ready to compete.

The opposite of selling, it also doesn’t make sense to buy too much. Missing the playoffs is a real possibility, so Houston emptying its already empty farm doesn’t seem logical either.

However, their starting rotation is still in a tough spot, so the Astros may want to consider adding some cheaper options that could further improve the prospects there.

Houston general manager Dana Brown could change the league’s outlook with a few trades, but the most likely outcome appears to be getting out once again.
