All service in and out of Penn Station is suspended, affecting other Amtrak routes

Due to a power outage, Amtrak was forced to suspend service to and from New York’s Penn Station and service between Philadelphia and New Haven, Connecticut, on Thursday.

This includes the NJ Transit lines that run through Penn Station.

About 500,000 people and 130-140 Amtrak trains pass through Penn Station every day. The warning came around 3 p.m., just before rush hour, which begins around 4 p.m.

Amtrak reports that a circuit breaker malfunction is the cause of the power outage on the tracks.

The outage came after Amtrak warned that the heat wave could cause slower trains, leading to delays of up to an hour. However, it is not clear whether the outage was caused by the heat.
