Relatives attack Somalis because of his faith in Jesus

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A Somali man was seriously injured when his relatives attacked him because of his belief in Jesus Christ.

The man’s wife also left the country with her five children to live with Muslim family members.

Muslim relatives of 40-year-old Mohammad Abdul attacked him at his home in the port city of Kismayo on May 5, a source told Morning Star News.

After recovering from his injuries, Abdul moved to another city for safety reasons.

Abdul found his faith in Jesus Christ in March through the efforts of a Somali pastor. Abdul and his family met with the pastor every evening to pray and study.

Some of Abdul’s children told other people that the family had met and prayed with a pastor. After this information came to light, one of Abdul’s children was beaten and bullied by other children.

In addition, Abdul’s relatives broke into his house and attacked him with a knife because he had left Islam.

Morning Star quotes the US State Department as saying that the Somali constitution has declared Islam to be the state religion and that the promotion of other religions is prohibited.

Somalia ranks second on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of the most difficult places for Christians.
