Ryan Garcia banned for one year and has to pay $1 million

Moody boxer Ryan Garcia’s week has taken another turn.

A day after announcing his “official retirement” on social media, Garcia was suspended for one year by the New York State Athletic Commission, according to ESPN.

Garcia, 25, will also have to forfeit the $1 million he won in April at Barclays Center for his majority decision win over Golden Boy – which now becomes a no-contest – against WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney.

Garcia was also fined $10,000 by the NYSAC.

The fighter tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine both the day before and the day of his fight with Haney, ESPN reported in May.

His B sample in May was also positive for PED.

Minutes after news of his suspension broke on Thursday, Garcia reached out to X and had a lot to say, including a post full of profanities.

“F–k you crying baby bitch,” he wrote in all caps above a photo of himself punching Haney during their April 20 fight.

“They took my victory away from me,” Garcia wrote in another post.

Haney posted on X about the suspension, calling it “the right thing to do.”

“Thank you also to the commission for doing the right thing and making the right decision,” he wrote Thursday afternoon. “I don’t understand how Golden Boy is getting money, as if they are taking some hits. They haven’t even commented on this PED situation.

“I’ll be back in a year. I’ve already had all the belts,” he added. “From now on I’ll fight in the weight class of my choice and no longer in weight classes.”

Haney added that he felt like he had been “betrayed.”

Since his victory in Brooklyn, Garcia has had a hectic few weeks after being arrested at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, California, in early June for allegedly causing damage to property valued at least $15,000.

It is currently unclear when – or if – he will fight again.
