Suspect in Washington City murder case shows no remorse after killing his parents, shooting his brother – St George News

ST. GEORGE – The two victims of a double homicide in Washington City on Tuesday have been identified as the parents of the suspect in the case, according to a police report on the shooting. The suspect, 28-year-old Mia Bailey, admitted to murdering her parents and attempting to murder her brother and expressed no remorse for doing so.

The parents, Joseph and Gail Bailey, were found dead when Washington City police responded to reports that shots had been fired at the home where the couple lived with one of their sons and his wife, the police report said.

Bailey surrendered Wednesday morning after an all-night search that spanned the entire area. She is being held at the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane pending a preliminary hearing.

Bailey is accused to kill her parents in their home on East Chinook Drive in the Washington Fields neighborhood of Washington City on Tuesday night. She also tried to shoot her brother, who lived in the house with his wife, the report said.

Bailey had not lived in the house.

In addition to the third-degree felony charge of discharging a firearm, she is now charged with ten first-degree felonies: three counts of aggravated murder, one count of aggravated burglary and six counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

According to police, Bailey admitted to killing her parents and attempting to kill her brother.

“Mia further stated that she did not regret her actions and would not change what she had done,” the police report states. “Mia said, ‘I would do it again. I hate her.'”

Bailey’s brother, Cory Bailey, filed a temporary restraining order against his sister last July, according to 5th District Court documents. Three other minor children are listed as co-plaintiffs in the order.

Judge John Walton issued a temporary restraining order on July 18.

The order came a month after the court allowed Bailey to change his gender and name from Collin Bailey.

On October 16, the court announced that both parties had agreed to lift the temporary restraining order. Walton granted the lift without prejudice, allowing the order to be re-filed later if necessary.

The police report details what police found upon their arrival, as well as Bailey’s own account of her own actions.

On Tuesday, Bailey arrived at the residence in her Kia Soul and her arrival was recorded on a neighbor’s security camera.

Bailey reportedly told police she came into the house and “immediately started shooting at her mother.” Police said they found several shell casings from a 9mm handgun in the living room next to the mother, who was lying face down and showing no signs of life.

According to police reports, Bailey described her father approaching her after hearing the gunshots. Bailey told police she shot her father in the head, causing him to “immediately fall to the ground.”

Bailey said she then went downstairs to the basement of the house to look for her brother Cory and found a locked door. Bailey said she fired one shot through the door in the direction of her brother. Bailey said she then went back upstairs.

She later told police that her brother was not her primary target, but “she would not have been sad if he had died from the shot.”

According to police, the brother was not hit, but a bullet hole was found in the door.

Cory Bailey told police that he and his wife locked the door after hearing the gunshots and commotion upstairs, then fled through a downstairs window into a neighbor’s house.

After going upstairs, Mia Bailey told police, she saw her father lying on the floor and shot him in the head again to “make sure he was dead.” She said she then heard noises from her mother and shot her in the head again.

A preliminary hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
