Seven dead from gun violence across St. Louis in just a few days

ST. LOUIS — At least seven people were shot across St. Louis in just a few days.

Police had their hands full as gun violence broke out across the city. They say one murder is too many and they want it to stop.

The most recent incident occurred Wednesday morning in the 4800 block of Farlin Ave. One victim was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds, according to officials. As of Wednesday evening, there was no suspect or motive.

“We have 58 murders this year compared to 56 murders (this time) last year,” said Sgt. Charles Wall. “More murders happen in one week than in another week, but at the end of the day… there is one murder too many in our system.”

Police found 56-year-old Winfred Bowers dead near Harney and Davison avenues in north St. Louis on Monday. Bowers was in a crashed vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.

The remaining five murders occurred throughout the city.

“Certainly seven is concerning, but when you compare it to previous years, I think the numbers are reasonably consistent,” Wall said. “But ultimately it is very worrying when someone loses their life. We take all of these investigations very seriously.”

Anyone with information about any of the incidents is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
