Investigations into fatal shooting in north Birmingham neighborhood underway

Police are investigating a homicide that occurred Thursday morning in the Fountain Heights neighborhood. The Birmingham Fire Department responded to a 911 call about a shooting before 11:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of 18th Street North. Officers with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were serving an eviction notice to a home in the area when someone told them a person had been shot nearby. Birmingham police arrived on the scene to find a man lying on the ground who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators do not know when the shooting occurred, but said it occurred recently and not overnight. No suspects are in custody. BIRMINGHAM, Alabama —

Police are investigating a murder that occurred Thursday morning in the Fountain Heights neighborhood.

The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Squad responded to a 911 call before 11:30 a.m. regarding a shooting in the 1500 block of 18th Street North.

Officers with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were serving an eviction notice on a home in the area when someone told them that a person had been shot nearby.

Birmingham police arrived at the scene and found a man lying on the ground who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators do not know when the shooting occurred, but say it occurred recently and did not happen overnight.

There are no suspects in custody.
