Shane Ragland, who was convicted of murdering a British football player in 1994, has been arrested

The man convicted of the high-profile murder of a British soccer player in the 1990s has been arrested again. According to our Lexington sister station WKYT, Shane Ragland was arrested this week on domestic violence and terroristic threats in connection with a reported incident on June 15 in Frankfort. WKYT reports that on June 18, a friend of Ragland’s mother told police he was forcing the mother out of her home. When she was able to get back inside, the friend told police Ragland ran over her with his motorized wheelchair and beat her with his arms and hands. It was also reported that Ragland threatened to kill his mother’s friend and said if he got his hands on his gun, he would shoot her in the head. Ragland was convicted of the 1994 murder of British soccer player Trent DiGiuro. The football player was killed shortly before his 21st birthday. Ragland’s conviction was later overturned, but he pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was released after serving time, but a series of charges and court dates followed in the years that followed. DiGiuro’s family released the following statement Thursday: “It is not surprising that Shane Ragland has been arrested again for violence. He is a serial offender and has been charged with harassment in San Diego, California for the past few years.” In court on Thursday, Ragland pleaded not guilty to the new charges. The judge also said he is not allowed to return to his mother’s home or possess a firearm. Court records also show that Ragland’s mother has filed for a restraining order against him.
