Rapper Remy Ma’s son arrested for murder in fatal 2021 shooting

Jayson Scott, the son of rapper Remy Ma, has been arrested on first-degree murder charges in connection with a fatal 2021 shooting in Queens, New York.

Scott, 23, was arrested and charged Tuesday in the fatal shooting of Darius Guillebeaux on June 7, 2021, in Queens, according to a statement from the New York Police Department. In addition to first-degree murder, Scott was arrested on charges of second-degree murder, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a firearm.

A representative for Ma and her son issued a statement saying that “very serious, unfounded allegations” had been made against Scott.

“Remy Ma wanted to address this situation personally, but our office has strongly advised her not to say anything publicly – as most people in this situation would, as the case is still pending,” the statement said. “To be clear: Jayson Scott is innocent and Remy Ma is committed to proving his innocence and fully supporting her child during this time.”

Scott has not yet been tried on the charges and court records were not available as of Thursday.

A second suspect, Richard Swygert, was also arrested on murder charges, the NYPD said. A public defender for Swygert did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

According to police, officers responded to a call reporting shots fired at the corner of 148 Street and Rockaway Boulevard, outside John F. Kennedy Airport, on June 7, 2021. A 47-year-old man, later identified as Guillebeaux, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

He was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Local news channel QNS.com reported at the time that Guillebeaux was seen arguing with two men before shots were fired that day.

Guillebeaux was named in November 2020 as one of 54 defendants in the New York Attorney General’s “Operation Heat Wave,” a law enforcement raid focused on three drug trafficking rings. He was accused of being a source of narcotics for a drug trafficking operation in upstate New York.
