York County man faces charges of sexual abuse of animals and minors

A York County man faces charges of sexually abusing a 16-year-old York County girl, invasion of privacy, producing/presenting/directing an obscene performance and alleged sexual intercourse with an animal.

Ryan Anthony Peters, 39, of Spring Grove rejected a negotiated deal with the Commonwealth and agreed to face a jury trial on three counts tentatively scheduled for the week of Sept. 9.

Peters’ attorney, Korey Leslie, requested that the trial be set for several months later to allow time to review evidence discovered in the case, including a cell phone suspected of containing child pornography and several videos.

On July 3, 2023, a 16-year-old girl reported to Pennsylvania State Police, Troop H, Carlisle Station that she was the victim of a sexual assault in the 2000 block of Buffalo Valley Road, Codorus Township, York County, according to charging documents. She reported to officers that the assault occurred on June 29, 2023.

According to police, the victim said she accompanied her mother to Peters’ apartment on June 29. Peters was a friend of her mother’s and had invited them both to a barbecue. They arrived late that evening and when they arrived, Peters was sitting around a fire in the backyard with his roommate, later identified as 25-year-old Jadzia Martin.

Troop J of the York Criminal Investigation Unit was notified of the reported assault and took over the investigation. A check on Peters revealed that he had been registered with Megan’s Law since 2007.

In 2009, he was charged and convicted of sexual assault and failure to comply with regulations as a registered sex offender, police said.

On July 11, 2023, Pennsylvania State Police executed a search warrant at Peters’ residence. There, officers discovered a camera with an SD card in his bedroom, which was returned to the station for inspection. Another camera was also discovered and seized by police.

When the SD cards were reviewed, it was found that six victims “had sexual acts recorded both audibly and visually without their knowledge or consent,” charging documents say.
