How to help your dog survive the heat

According to Anthony Gibney, veterinarian at Animal Hospital of Morris Park, there are simple tips you can follow to prevent your dog from overheating.

To prevent overheating, take your puppy for a walk in the morning or evening, make sure he has water (throw in an ice cube), and make sure he has shade.

Our four-legged friends have a much harder time in this heat than we do, says the vet.

“Dogs, for example, have very limited ability to lose heat. They sweat on their paws and lose heat by panting,” Gibney said.

Asphalt can be extremely dangerous for dogs. On a 30 degree day, the asphalt can heat up to 57 degrees.
