Cyberattack on CDK Global impacts merchants in the US

CDK Global was the victim of a cyberattack in the US on Wednesday and was forced to shut down its applications for US traders.

The US software giant operates 15,000 sales outlets across the US and has thousands of dealers and the majority of OEMs in its portfolio.

The company “has shut down all systems, conducted extensive testing and consulted with outside experts,” Tony Macrito, a CDK spokesman, said in an email to Bloomberg.

Reuters reported yesterday that the company said its central merchant management system and digital retail solutions had been restored.

The company said it also conducted tests and consulted outside experts following the incident.

CDK spokeswoman Lisa Finney told USA Today in an emailed statement that the company had shut down most of its systems “out of an abundance of caution” for customers.

By Wednesday afternoon, the company had restored its central document management system and digital retail solutions, she said.

Cybercrime has increased over the last decade. In the UK, Arnold Clark and Pendragon are among the victims.
