Lombard man dies in multi-vehicle crash in Joliet – Shaw Local

One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the west side of Joliet on Wednesday evening.

According to Joliet police, police arrived at the scene at around 6:30 p.m. at the corner of West Jefferson and Airport Drive.

According to police, a Ford Ranger truck driven by a 72-year-old Lombard man was traveling westbound on West Jefferson Street when it struck the rear passenger side of a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling westbound on West Jefferson Street in the inside lane. The Jeep was driven by a 44-year-old Shorewood woman.

The Ford truck also struck the rear driver’s side of a Tesla 3 driven by a 38-year-old Naperville man traveling westbound on West Jefferson Street in the shoulder lane, according to police. The Ford drove between the Jeep and the Tesla and then swerved left into the oncoming eastbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Pontiac Torrent traveling eastbound, police said.

The Pontiac was driven by a 22-year-old from Rockdale.

The driver of the Ford was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to Ascension Saint Joseph-Joliet, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The road was closed for several hours while officers reconstructed the accident scene. Identification of the deceased victim and cause of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner.
