Heat Warning and Air Quality Alert in effect on Thursday, June 20.

4Warn Weather – It will remain hot and stormy for the summer solstice. We officially welcome summer today at 4:50 p.m. Heat and humidity will once again impact the area. A heat advisory will remain in effect for areas along and south of I-69 until 10 p.m. Heat indices will still be around 32 degrees today across Southeast Michigan. We also have an air quality advisory in place today, so try to minimize your time outside due to the heat and air quality.

A stalled front over the area will create a temperature gradient across Southeast Michigan today. Cooler conditions are expected over the Thumb and near Lake Huron, while warmer south of I-69 will be expected, with highs in the 30s to 35s. Feels like temperatures south of I-69 will reach 35s to 40s. Due to the heat and humidity, isolated thunderstorms are possible anytime today through Saturday. The strongest storms are expected in the afternoon and evening. Strong wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy rains with localized flooding are the biggest weather concerns. An Air Quality Warning for elevated ozone levels is in effect today for Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. People are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activities and vehicle refueling or refilling while refueling and/or using gasoline-powered lawn equipment if possible.

There is a chance of occasional showers and thunderstorms every afternoon through Sunday, so keep an umbrella handy as the heat and humidity mean there is a chance of a few showers each day. Temperatures will remain in the 30s through Saturday. Temperatures will drop to 30s to 40s from Sunday through early next week.
